Speedemissions, Inc. operates as a test-only emissions testing and safety inspection company in the United States.

The company performs vehicle emissions testing and safety inspections in certain cities in which vehicle emissions testing is mandated by the United States Environmental Protection Agency. The company operates vehicle emissions testing and safety inspection stations under the trade names of Speedemissions and Auto Emissions Express (in Atlanta, Georgia and St. Louis, Missouri). The company also operates mobile testing units in the Atlanta, Georgia area, which service automotive dealerships and local government agencies.

The company uses computerized emissions testing and safety inspections equipment that test vehicles for compliance with vehicle emissions and safety standards. As a service to its customers, the company also sells automotive parts and supplies, such as windshield wipers, taillight bulbs and gas caps at select locations.

The company offers an iPhone application, Carbonga. Carbonga diagnoses an automobile’s computer system using the on board diagnostic port available on vehicles produced since 1996. Carbonga could check approximately 2,000 vehicle fault codes. The company’s version two of Carbonga includes additional features, such as the ability to receive vehicle safety recalls and technical service bulletins.

The company operates SpeedEmissions Car Care, LLC through which it franchises its vehicle emissions and safety inspections store model. Franchises are available to store operators who have an interest in either a single- or multi-location opportunity in select cities where vehicle emissions testing/safety inspections and other automotive services are required. The company signed an agreement with an Atlanta based franchise consulting company to assist with its plan to franchise its business model into various new U.S. markets.

Strategy

The company’s strategy focuses on providing its customers with fast, honest and courteous vehicle testing and inspection services; increasing the volume of business at each site; creating brand awareness for its services; and creating repeat customer sales. To achieve these goals, the company seeks to secure and maintain emissions testing and safety inspection stations at well-traveled intersections and other locations that are accessible by its customers; coordinate operations, training and local outreach programs in each market; implement regional management and marketing initiatives in each of its markets; tailor each facility and use local advertising to describe the services it offers to appeal to the range of consumers; and aspire to expand the use of its mobile vehicle testing units by bidding on federal, state, and local governments for their fleet vehicles, as well as corporate accounts and automotive dealerships.

Discontinued Operations

In March 2017, the company closed its Salt Lake City, Utah, station under a lease termination agreement with the landlord.

The company has registered the trade names ‘Speedemissions’, ‘Just Emissions’, and ‘Carbonga’ in the United States.
