South Jersey Gas Company (SJG)
SJG operates as a regulated natural gas utility, which distributes natural gas in the seven southernmost counties of New Jersey.
SJG engages in the purchase, transmission and sale of natural gas for residential, commercial and industrial use. SJG also sells natural gas and pipeline transportation capacity (off-system sales) on a wholesale basis to various customers on the interstate pipeline system and transports natural gas purchased directly from producers or suppliers to their customers.
SJG's service territory covers approximately 2,500 square miles in the southern part of New Jersey. It includes 113 municipalities throughout Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland and Salem counties and portions of Burlington, Camden and Gloucester counties. SJG serves approximately 81% of households within its territory with natural gas. SJG also serves southern New Jersey's diversified industrial base that includes processors of petroleum and agricultural products; chemical, glass and consumer goods manufacturers; and high technology industrial parks.
As of December 31, 2021, SJG served 384,062 residential customers, 26,826 commercial customers and 413 industrial customers in southern New Jersey. Net additions in 2021 of residential and commercial/industrial customers amounted to 5,959 and 456, respectively. Gas sales, transportation and capacity release for 2021 amounted to 136.2 million decatherms (MMdts), of which 52.5 MMdts were firm sales and transportation, 1.1 MMdts were interruptible sales and transportation and 82.6 MMdts were off-system sales and capacity release. The breakdown of firm sales and transportation includes 48.5% residential, 23.1% commercial, 19.9% industrial, and 8.5% cogeneration and electric generation.
SJG makes wholesale gas sales to gas marketers for resale and delivery to end users.
SJG has direct connections to the interstate pipeline systems of Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line Company, LLC (Transco) and Columbia Gas Transmission, LLC (Columbia). It secures other long-term services from Dominion Transmission, Inc. (Dominion), a pipeline upstream of the Transco and Columbia systems. Services provided by Dominion are utilized to deliver gas into either the Transco or Columbia systems for ultimate delivery to SJG. It owns approximately 44 acres of land in Folsom, New Jersey.
Gas Supplies: SJG has four separate Asset Management Agreement’s with gas marketers that extend through March 31, 2022. SJG released to the marketers its firm transportation rights, and in return the marketers manage this capacity and provide it with firm deliverability each day.
Supplemental Gas Supplies: SJG operates peaking facilities, located in McKee City, New Jersey, where it liquefies, stores and vaporizes liquefied natural gas (LNG) for injection into its distribution system. SJG’s LNG facility has a storage capacity equivalent to 434,300 decatherms (dts) of natural gas and has an installed capacity to vaporize approximately 118,250 dts of LNG per day for injection into its distribution system.
Peak-Day Supply: SJG plans for a winter season peak-day demand on the basis of an average daily temperature of 2 degrees F or 63 Heating Degree Days. SJG experienced its highest peak-day demand for calendar year 2021 on January 29th.
Elizabethtown Gas Company (ETG)
ETG is a regulated natural gas utility, which distributes natural gas in seven counties in northern and central New Jersey.
ETG has direct connections to the interstate pipeline systems of Transco, Columbia, Texas Eastern Transmission Corp (Tetco) and Tennessee Gas Pipeline Company, L.L.C. (Tennessee). ETG secures other long-term services from various inter-state pipelines, Eastern Gas, National Fuel Gas Supply Corporation (National Fuel) and Gulf South Pipeline (Gulf South) that are not directly connected to ETG and are upstream of the Transco and Tetco systems. Services provided by Eastern Gas are utilized to deliver gas into either the Transco or Tetco systems for delivery to ETG. Services provided by National Fuel and Gulf South are utilized to deliver gas into the Transco system for ultimate delivery to ETG. ETG also secures third-party storage services from Stagecoach Gas Services and Stagecoach Pipeline & Storage Company.
ETG owns approximately 3,273 miles of distribution pipeline and 12 miles of transmission system mains in seven counties in northern and central New Jersey.
ETG serves residential, business and industrial customers, with a service territory that covers the northern part of New Jersey, including municipalities throughout Union, Middlesex, Sussex, Warren, Hunterdon, Morris and Mercer counties. ETG also serves northern New Jersey's diversified industrial base within its territory with natural gas, which includes pharmaceutical, food and beverage, and transportation industries.
As of December 31, 2021, ETG served 305,464 customers in northern and central New Jersey, including 281,612 residential customers, 23,750 commercial customers and 102 industrial customers. Gas sales and transportation for 2021 amounted to 49.8 MMdts, of which 43.6 MMdts were firm sales and transportation and 6.2 MMdts were interruptible sales and transportation. The breakdown of firm sales and transportation includes 23.2 MMdts residential, 13.8 MMdts commercial, and 6.6 MMdts industrial.
Supplemental Gas Supplies: ETG operates a peaking facility, located in Elizabeth, New Jersey, where it stores and vaporizes LNG for injection into its distribution system. ETG's LNG facility has a storage capacity equivalent to 165,000 decatherms (dts) of natural gas and has an installed capacity to vaporize approximately 25,000 dts of LNG per day for injection into its distribution system.
South Jersey Energy Company (SJE)
SJE acquires and markets electricity to retail end users.
South Jersey Resources Group, LLC (SJRG)
SJRG markets natural gas storage, commodity and transportation assets along with fuel management services on a wholesale basis in the mid-Atlantic, Appalachian and southern states.
SJRG holds various firm transportation agreements with National Fuel, Transco, Dominion, Columbia, Tennessee and Tetco. Total transportation under contract is 423,030 decatherms per day (dts/d). These contracts have terms with various ending dates, ranging from September 30, 2022 through March 31, 2043.
SJRG holds multiple storage service agreements, primarily with Transco (for storage service at Transco's WSS facility) and National Fuel. Total storage capacity under contract is approximately 4.6 MMdts. The contracts have terms with various ending dates, ranging from October 31, 2022 through March 31, 2023.
The company's intentions are to renew or extend these transportation and storage service agreements before they expire.
Gas Supplies: SJRG has entered into various long-term natural gas supply agreements to purchase 526,400 dts/d, depending upon production levels, for terms ranging from five to eleven years at index-based prices.
South Jersey Exploration, LLC (SJEX)
SJEX owns oil, gas and mineral rights in the Marcellus Shale region of Pennsylvania.
Marina Energy, LLC (Marina)
Marina develops and operates on-site energy-related projects. The principal wholly-owned subsidiaries of Marina include:
AC Landfill Energy, LLC (ACLE); BC Landfill Energy, LLC (BCLE); SC Landfill Energy, LLC (SCLE); and SX Landfill Energy, LLC (SXLE) own landfill gas-to-energy production facilities in Atlantic, Burlington, Salem and Sussex counties, respectively, located in New Jersey. ACLE ceased operations on September 30, 2021, while BCLE, SCLE and SXLE ceased operations on June 1, 2020.
Marina owns, directly and through wholly-owned subsidiaries, solar energy projects at rooftop generation sites in New Jersey.
Marina also includes the Catamaran joint venture that was entered into for the purpose of developing, owning and operating renewable energy projects, and supporting the company’s commitment to clean energy initiatives. Catamaran owns Annadale Community Clean Energy Projects LLC (Annadale) and Bronx Midco, LLC (Bronx Midco), operators of fuel cell projects in New York, in which Marina, through Catamaran, owns 93% and 92%, respectively. Catamaran also owns a solar generation site in Massachusetts, in which Marina, through Catamaran, owns 90%.
South Jersey Energy Service Plus, LLC (SJESP)
Retail service operations includes SJESP, which receives commissions on appliance service contracts from a third party.
SJI Midstream, LLC (Midstream)
Midstream invests in infrastructure and other midstream projects, including PennEast Pipeline, LLC (PennEast). Midstream owns a 20% equity investment, along with four other investors, in PennEast.
SJI Energy Investments, LLC (SJEI)
SJEI provides energy procurement and cost reduction services. The significant wholly-owned subsidiaries of SJEI include the following:
Applied Energy Partners, LLC, an aggregator, broker and consultant in the retail energy markets that matches end users with suppliers for the procurement of natural gas and electricity.
EnerConnex, LLC (EnerConnex), an aggregator, broker and consultant in the retail and wholesale energy markets that matches end users with suppliers for the procurement of natural gas and electricity. In August 2020, SJEI acquired the remaining 75% of EnerConnex, of which SJEI previously held a 25% interest.
SJI Renewable Energy Ventures, LLC and SJI RNG Devco, LLC, which holds the equity interest in REV LNG, LLC (REV LNG) and its renewable natural gas development rights in certain dairy farms, respectively.
